She has also provided psychotherapy for individuals suffering from depression, anxiety, trauma-spectrum disorders, addiction, and couples counseling and marital enrichment.
Dr. Nielsen has worked with children, adolescents, and adults providing expressive art therapy using the visual arts. She believes that engaging in the creative process in the therapeutic context can provide another avenue for self expression and understanding / resolution of concerns. Visual imagery can compliment verbal expression and enrich the healing process for individuals interested in working in this manner. Children and adolescents who may have difficulty communicating can also utilize engaging in the arts as a method of rapport-building and sharing concerns.
Dr. Nielsen began working as a staff therapist with Mark D. Parisi, Psy.D. & Associates, P.C. in 2011. Dr. Nielsen lives with her family in Skokie and enjoys spending time reading and engaging in the arts and other leisurely activities.
