Dr. Paul Riel has been a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the State of Illinois since 1981. After completing his undergraduate education at Fairfield University in Connecticut, he came to Chicago to study clinical psychology at Northwestern University. He graduated from Northwestern University in 1981 with a Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology.
His career has been focused on public sector populations, first with the City of Chicago Bureau of Mental Health and then with the State of Illinois. He spent 26 years working in state-operated facilities as a psychologist and administrator providing inpatient services to acute and chronically disturbed adolescents and adults. He has provided consultation services to a variety of social service agencies throughout the city of Chicago.
Dr. Riel joined Mark D. Parisi, Psy.D. & Associates, P.C. in 2011 to provide group and individual behavioral healthcare services to clients in skilled nursing facilities. Dr. Riel understands mental illness, especially anxiety, depression and the personality disorders, as a consequence of problems in the development or early attachments, and believes therapy should be directed at solving problems in the individual’s capacity for interpersonal relations. Dr. Riel is married and has one child, now grown. He and his wife enjoy hiking, sailing, and spending time with their family. In college, he majored in English Literature and maintains an active interest in literature, philosophy, and history.
